Francisco LonaVarsity Head Coach

I have coached boys soccer at all three levels in my 23 years here at TPHS as I now enter Year Two as Head Varsity Coach. I served Six years as JV Coach, four years as Asst. Varsity Coach and ten years as Freshmen Coach. Having played as a youth growing up, representing my High School as a student was one of the highlights of my High School experience. My goal is that every player playing for Torrey Pines High School has the same experience. As a High School teacher on campus I recognize the importance of being a student-athlete and I regularly emphasize that to our student body as we see each other on campus regularly. The Goal for every season is to win it all regardless of what level, and only together will we accomplish this! It is the Way…Go Falcons!!!

Joao Paulo Faria BinderFrosh Head Coach

JP brings a wealth of player experience to the Falcons coaching team. Hailing from Curitiba, Brazil, Joao Paulo (JP) has been immersed in soccer from a young age. He started his journey in futsal and soccer at just six years old with Club Athletico Paranaense, where he played until he was 17.

In 2003, JP earned a full athletic scholarship to FESP University, where he played in the Brazilian University National League for four years. After relocating to the USA in 2007, JP was invited to build, play, manage, and captain the Southern States University (SSU) soccer team while completing his Masters in Business Administration. From 2009 to 2011, JP played with SSU in the West Coast Soccer Association leagues, and in 2012, he played a season for San Diego Boca FC.

JP is thrilled to share his extensive experience and passion for the game with the next generation of athletes. His goal is to teach the fundamentals of soccer, nurturing not only the tactical and technical skills of his players but also supporting their growth as good human beings. He aims to develop their character and sportsmanship, fostering respect for family, friends, teammates, and fellow competitors.

JP is committed to instilling these values in his players, ensuring they excel both on and off the field.

– Coached and tutored boot camps for public school kids aged 8-17.
– Volunteered as a coach in the local community during university, twice a year for 3 years.
– Manages and coaches a soccer team in the Men’s Adult League in San Diego.
– Fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Proficient in French and Italian.
